Each province/territory is eligible to send one competitor to compete for prizes totaling $13,500 in two levels of competition. The competition is open to students studying with a Registered Music Teacher, at the under-graduate level or lower. Click here for information on how you can become a member CFMTA/FCAPM so your students can participate in this prestigious competition.


Selection Process:

Each province/territory selects their representative independently through a taped or live competition. For information on the process in your province/territory, please contact your provincial/territorial administration.
The Semi-Final Round showcases each provincial/territorial winner performing a 45 minute program of classical music. Esteemed adjudicators will then choose 3 candidates to compete in the final round on the following evening.



Prizes awarded to Semi-Final competitors include:
Dorothy Buckley Prize:
 for the best performance of a Canadian composition - $1000.00

Marek Jablonski Prize: for the best performance of a Chopin composition - $1000.00

Willard Schultz Prize: to the performer whose reading of Baroque music best communicates the intentions of the composer in the opinion of the adjudicator panel - $1,000.00

Willard Schultz Prize: to the performer who shows the most promise overall as a performing artist, in the opinion of the adjudicator panel - $1,000.00

Prizes awarded to Final Round competitors include:
First Prize: $5,000.00
